Maghera Walled Garden Project
Primary 6 & 7 had a lovely morning on Thursday 23rd March when Lorainne Gardner from the Walled Gardens in Maghera came in to help us complete some work. Firstly she told us where the garden was and the different plants and vegetables that she grows there. She explained that we were going to paint some slates that she could use so she knows what is planted in each bed. we were each given a slate, a pencil, some paint and the name of a vegetable. we wrote the name of the vegetable at the top before drawing and painting the vegetable underneath.
Our next activity was to plant some pea seeds. we used newspaper and a little wooden turner to make a small pot. Lorainne told us we were using newspaper because she was going to plant them in her garden and paper decomposes in the soil.
Lorainne was very impressed with our work and was excited to take it back to the garden. This was an enjoyable day and we look forward to visiting the garden where our masterpieces can be seen.
We also hope to plant some vegetables in our own school garden in the summer term.
