Cookie has been so impressed with all the wonderful singing, acting and dancing going on in the school performances that he is contemplating a career change. 

He is thinking that from watching Mrs Speers that directing plays would be a fantastic new career. So it seems that he has created a new role for himself as Assistant Director of the play. Hopefully he will be successful in his new career, he certainly has a great teacher.
